January in Gatlinburg TN

January is a busy month for Gatlinburg TN. People are visiting from all over. The townsfolk have everything decorated in celebration of the winter season. From January 1 until February 28 Gatlinburg Tennessee will be celebrating Winterfest. During Winterfest visitors will be welcomed into town by lights, decorations and the storefronts are reflecting the winter colors. The winter nights are illuminated by over 2 million lights arranged in different shapes that have become synonymous with the winter months. The lights won’t come down once the holidays are over. Gatlinburg keeps them up until the winter months come to an end. Bring out the kids for this special treat. Every one of all ages will enjoy the scenery during January. Businesses will light up their store and decorate for a little healthy competition to see who has the best decorations in different categories. The Trolley Ride of Lights will take those who want to see all the lights throughout Gatlinburg to see some spectacular light displays. The ride starts at Ripley’s Aquarium every Saturday night and they take you on a guided tour so you can look at the lights and take pictures.

The Ghost Walk of Gatlinburg begins at the beginning of January. It’s a night-time walk that lasts around an hour and is about a one mile walk. A guide will lead the way dressed in costume carrying a lantern to add dramatic effect. Don’t worry about being chased around during this experience. They just tell you stories of murder and mayhem and walk you through one of Gatlinburg’s most historic and haunted places. You can hear stories of local legends, tall-tales, and murder. Reservations are required for this nightly walk. The tours leave at 9:00, 10:30 and midnight. Don’t be scared of the dark, that’s what adds to the scare.

January obviously has cooler temperatures leaving it to be the perfect weather for skiing and snowboarding. Bundle up and hit the slopes for an adventure on your escape to the Gatlinburg, TN. If it’s the first attempt at skiing or snowboarding then Ober Gatlinburg offers classes for you to take so you can quickly be on your way to being a pro. If skiing or snowboarding isn’t your thing then Ober Gatlinburg also offers an indoor ice skating rink. A whole day of fun can be had at Ober Gatlinburg during the winter months. If there’s not enough snow on the ground don’t worry, Ober Gatlinburg makes sure you have something to ski or snowboard on. They have snow machines that will blow fake snow on the ground so you won’t have to miss a day.

January is like no other month. The weather is crisp and cold. There’s nothing like walking around downtown Gatlinburg Tennessee with the snow falling down and then retiring to your Gatlinburg cabin to snuggle up in a hot tub. There’s always something to do whether it be one of the many Gatlinburg attractions or strolling through one of the many shops.
