Gatlinburg Sky Lift

The Gatlinburg Sky Lift has been a favorite of tourists and residents alike for around 50 years. The 500 foot lift takes you up the side of the mountain for spectacular views of Gatlinburg and the mountains. It's one of the southern states longest chairlift. As you ascend up the hill you start to see more of the photo worthy panoramic views.

The ride starts from a loading station in downtown Gatlinburg TN. You pay for your ticket and then go to the boarding stations to wait for your chair. Prices are $12 (plus tax) for adults and $9 (plus tax) for ages 3-11. You are instructed on how to load and directed to the platform where your chair will come around and scoop you up and take you away (after your front bar has been lowered for safety, of course). For the first part of the ride you are taken over the heads of people walking along River Street and go above the Little Pigeon River. From there it's an uphill ride to the top. When you're almost to the top smile for the camera to the right. Your photo will be able to be viewed and bought at the store once you reach the top.

If you have a few minutes take a look around the store. It's a small souvenir shop with many trinkets that could make for a great gift. After you browse through the store go to the overlook. From atop the mountain the views are breathtaking! See if you can find your hotel, cabin or house! Once you've done everything you wanted to do at the store venture back over to the boarding station and get ready to make the trip back down the mountains. This time you get to see the views as you descend the mountain.

Don't worry about not being able to ride the Sky Lift because they're open year round! The Gatlinburg scenic chairlift is an exciting ride for young children and romantic for couples. It's even great to ride with your friend. Next time you're walking through downtown Gatlinburg stop by for a quick ride. Remember, smile for the camera!
