Getting Around Gatlinburg TN

Guests love coming to the Smoky Mountains and to the Gatlinburg Tennessee area. With all the fun and exciting attractions and local restaurants right in downtown, all you have to do is park and save gas by browsing around downtown Gatlinburg on foot. Unfortunately, find a spot during holidays can be very difficult.


Parking and walking is generally the best idea considering holidays and weekends get congested because of all the traffic. Walking, by far, is the easiest and cheapest way to maneuver around Gatlinburg TN.

If you decide to take a stroll in downtown Gatlinburg TN, you will find some free parking lots offered buy business and restaurants. These can come in handy, but typically the lots are for paying customers only. Be sure to read the stipulations before entering the parking lot. Paying for your car to be towed is not fun. Along River Road in downtown Gatlinburg you will find a few free parking spots at traffic light number five.

There is an abundance of “fee“ parking lots. These lots can be very helpful and beneficial, but they come at a cost. Most of these “pay“ lots range in price from $10 - $15 per day. This is very costly if you only want to park for a quick stroll around Gatlinburg.

If you have never used the trolley’s offered by Gatlinburg or you are tired of walking, there are two park and ride lots in downtown Gatlinburg TN. The first one is at the Welcome Center just before you get into town. The other park and ride lot is located on East Parkway at City Hall. At these locations you can park your vehicle for free and ride the Trolley into downtown to catch some of the fun and exciting attractions. The cost typically runs around a quarter or two.

The trolley will not only take you downtown but the trolley’s also run to the Great Smoky Arts and Crafts Community, Dollywood and certain places inside the National Park, such as the Sugarlands Visitor Center and Elkmont Campground.

If you are staying in downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee there are several places to lodge that are within walking distance to downtown. With so many choices of Gatlinburg cabins, condos and hotels there is no reason you would have to drive anywhere while on your Gatlinburg vacation.

The most important thing to remember when coming to Gatlinburg is to dress as comfortably as possible because a lot of walking is required when going to the area attractions and stores. The area is all about being relaxed. Dress appropriately and come prepared to have a great time in downtown Gatlinburg TN.
